When Todoist is a good fit
Todoist offers projects, recurring due dates, labels, filters, multiple views, integrations, and shared projects. If those are central to your workflow, check those capabilities carefully before switching.
Todoist also offers AI: Ramble turns spoken thoughts into structured tasks, and Task Assist can suggest a next step or break a task into subtasks. AI capture and task breakdown alone are not reasons to switch.
When to consider Aiken Dewit
Try Aiken when the difficult part is choosing among competing tasks. Ask the AI Secretary for a next move, inspect its reason and trade-off, and push back when the advice does not fit.
Choose up to three priorities, focus on one task with elapsed time tracking, and queue what comes next. Ask for a daily plan or a smaller first step when you need help beginning.
The workflow to compare
- Capture: Todoist offers natural-language Quick Add and voice capture with Ramble. Aiken accepts text or photos and proposes tasks for review.
- Choose: Todoist offers priorities and filters. In Aiken, ask the Secretary for a recommendation with a reason and trade-off, then choose your daily top three.
- Begin: Todoist Task Assist can suggest a next step. Aiken also offers a reviewable first step, an active-task timer, and an editable up-next queue.
- Collaborate: Todoist supports shared projects and assigned tasks. Aiken focuses on your individual task decisions.
Compare using the same three tasks
- Pick three current tasks with real deadlines or constraints.
- Try choosing a starting point in your current workflow.
- Bring those tasks to Aiken and ask what to do next.
- Compare the usefulness of the explanation and first step before moving more work.
Try without committing to a migration
Paste a few tasks or attach a screenshot and review Aiken’s proposed task list. Settings → Data also supports a reviewable CSV import. Inspect the preview rather than assuming every source field will transfer.
A CSV import is a one-time transfer, not a live Todoist integration. You can keep your existing system while evaluating Aiken separately.
Who should keep their current app?
If you need shared team projects, a particular integration, or a workflow built around Todoist’s filters, verify those requirements before switching. Aiken’s focus is personal task decisions, daily planning, and getting started.
