Choose a visible first action

“Work on the proposal” leaves you deciding what to do after you start. “Open the brief and list the three questions the proposal must answer” gives you a visible action. A good first step makes the next decision easier.

Use the checklist as a starting point

This helper uses practical templates for writing, research, admin, learning, and projects. It does not read your documents or infer details from the task name. Change any step that does not fit your work.

For writing, the sequence is to define the audience and outcome, outline key points, draft one part, then review. For research, it starts with one question and ends with an answer and remaining unknowns.

When the first step is asking someone

If information or approval is missing, request it before trying to force progress on the larger task. A small action should remove uncertainty or produce something useful, not create extra busywork.
